Looking for a powerful compressor for your pneumatic tacker? At Tackershop we sell high-quality compressors from several leading brands, such as TRX and Bostitch. Check out our offer and place an order directly in the webshop.

People often mistakenly think that a compressor with a large tank automatically has more power, but this is not always the case! The air pressure is the most important thing, it is determined by the size, type and efficiency of the motor and pump. NOT by the tank. A compact compressor, with a 20 liter tank, can basically provide the same air pressure as a compressor with a 100 liter tank capacity.

Note: All compressors should be used close to the main power supply. Where this is not possible, it is recommended to use a longer air hose instead of an extension cord. This is because an extension cord may result in a lower voltage.

What is a compressor for?

A compressor is a device that compresses air, resulting in compressed air. This compressed air from the air compressor can be used as a power source, which is suitable for driving pneumatic nailers, for example. There are two different types of compressors, namely piston compressors and screw compressors:

Reciprocating compressor

A reciprocating compressor compresses the air using pistons in a cylinder. These parts are driven by an electric motor. The air is introduced into the cylinder and then compressed by the pistons. The compression can be performed several times, which increases the air pressure. A piston compressor is often recommended if a constant supply of compressed air is not required.

Screw compressor

Another type of compressor is the screw compressor. As the name suggests, screw elements are used to compress the air. Screw compressors are particularly useful in applications where a constant flow of compressed air is required. Some typical industries in which they are used include the food processing industry, packaging industry and the automotive industry (for car body repairs). Screw compressors are often larger than reciprocating compressors. They are stationary compressors that are used for heavier applications.

What should I pay attention to before purchasing a reciprocating compressor?

Before you buy a compressor, it is important to know what you want to use the compressor for. A number of properties are important for this:

  • Tank capacity: Compressed air compressors are available in different tank sizes. The tank capacity affects how long you can work continuously before the compressor has to refill the tank
  • Suction volume: The suction volume indicates how quickly the compressor can suck in and store air
  • Maximum pressure: This indicates the maximum air pressure the compressor can generate. Every pneumatic tool requires a certain pressure. By knowing the maximum pressure of your compressor, you can see if it is suitable for your tool. The working pressure of the pneumatic nailers can be found in the manual or on our website under the product specifications
  • Noise (LWA): If you work a lot next to a compressor, the sound of the compressor is important to maintain good hearing. Good to know that there are also silent compressors of 62 dB
  • Voltage: All our compressors operate on a standard 230 volt power supply. These are therefore suitable for European type sockets
  • Weight of the compressor: Do you want to move the compressor regularly? Then it is advisable to purchase a compact, light compressor

An oil-free compressor or an oil-lubricated compressor?

Oil-free compressors supply clean compressed air and require minimal maintenance, are limited to periodic condensation draining and simple replacement of air filters. Oil-free compressors are often smaller and lighter than oil-lubricated compressors. Oil-lubricated compressors are usually used as stationary compressors. They require more intensive maintenance, including regular oil changes and replacing oil filters according to manufacturer specifications. Thanks to their design focused on power and longevity, oil-lubricated compressors are suitable for long-term and heavier applications.

Tackershop recommends: the quiet and compact TRX 8/110-OF

A compressor that we recommend is the TRX 8/110-OF compressor from the TRX brand. This compressor has fantastic value for money. With a generous tank capacity, significant suction volume and quiet operation, this compressor is suitable for a wide range of applications.

  • Tank capacity: 8 liters
  • Suction volume: 110 liters per minute
  • Maximum pressure: 9 bar
  • Noise level: only 62 dB
  • Voltage: 230 V
  • Compressor weight: 18.4 kg
